“Open communication, understanding, inclusiveness – all of these things will help create better balance and a better world.” - Samantha Wilson, Skin Republic Director

This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating inspirational women who are empowering others, striving for change, and advocating for equality.

Samantha Wilson

Samantha Wilson is the Co-founder and Director of Skin Republic, a range of sheet masks inspired by Korean skincare techniques. When developing Skin Republic, Samantha’s aim was to provide products that make women feel more confident in their own skin, while revolutionising the skincare industry to pave the way for future female-owned businesses.

We spoke to Samantha about starting a business, how she thinks we can create balance in business, and what International Women’s Day means to her.

1. Why is it so important to have women in leadership positions?

I think it is important that we have a balance between genders in leadership positions. Both men and women offer different perspectives and experience allowing us to create truly inclusive business strategies.

2. What advice would you give to women who want to start their own business?

Just go for it. If you really want something, you just have to try. Be passionate, ask lots of questions, talk to your networks. You might be surprised at how many people will be happy to give you advice. Remember there will be hard days but there will also be so many good days. Do your homework about your idea first so you don’t invest lots of time and money into only to find out there are too many competitors.

3. How do you think we can create balance in business to create a better world?

We need to recognise changing times. Provide more flexibility. Support women when they decide to start families. Be compassionate yet driven. Open communication, understanding, inclusiveness – all of these things will help create better balance and a better world.

“International Women’s Day is about supporting and empowering the women around us: our mothers, sisters, neighbours and friends.”

4. What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

International Women’s Day is about supporting and empowering the women around us: our mothers, sisters, neighbours and friends. It is so important, especially in a male centric corporate world. Considering the number of skincare products women use, it is astonishing how few brands are actually female-owned. In a multi-billion-dollar industry that is geared toward women, the biggest companies are still run by men. We need to get behind the female game changers.
