WOMAN OF THE MONTH: GRETA THUNBERG
‘Woman of the Month’ seems to be a title too small for the inspiration that is Greta Thunberg. If you have been living under a rock, you may not have heard the incredibly moving speech that this 16 year old Swedish woman gave at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit. It is through her words of passion and frustration that we were able to hear about Climate Change, from a new perspective. She said, “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I'm one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing.”
Since Greta’s fiery address, Australia has been well and truly suffering the consequences of climate change with bushfires engulfing the country and giving us the label “Country on Fire”. Devastatingly, over 5,000,000 hectares of Australian land have gone up in flames, along with animal and human lives being taken in the process. The worst part is, there doesn't seem to be an end to the inferno.
It’s times like these that we should look to individuals like Greta who advocate for world issues like climate change. It is our responsibility as members of the human race to stay informed and do our bit to help make a difference. As Greta, Time's '2019 Person of the Year' said, "The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not” and we couldn’t agree more.
