“International Women’s Day is a day to reflect and acknowledge all that women continue to achieve. It’s a day to showcase the triumphs, difficulties and push-backs faced, and what women continue to face. It is also a time to recognise how incredibly strong women are.” - Anna Lahey, Founder of Vida Glow

This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating inspirational women who are empowering others, striving for change, and advocating for equality.

Anna Lahey is the co-founder of Vida Glow, a holistic wellness and beauty brand. From a personal struggle, to a booming business, Anna found a solution to her hair, skin and nail issues, and created a line of products to help other women feel confident in their own skin.

A dedicated mum and driven business-woman, we spoke to Anna about running a business and spending quality time with her family, how she hopes to empower other women, and what International Women’s Day means to her.

 1. How do you hope to empower women through Vida Glow

Before I discovered marine collagen, I was insecure about certain aspects of my appearance. I hope that Vida Glow helps women feel confident within their own skin and to understand the importance of beauty from within and looking after yourself. Not just focusing on how we look on the outside.

Vida Glow is my baby (along with my sons and my dogs). It started with my personal experience, to an idea, and it’s become a reality because of our wonderful team and a lot of hard work. I’d like to think that my story, in some small way, gives women the drive to be ambitious and create something they’re truly proud of.

     2. How do you manage the balance between being a mum and running a business?

Through an incredible support system filled with family, friends and staff. A business’ success relies on forming a team who understands your vision, knows where your brand is going, wants it to succeed, and most importantly, treats it with all the love and respect it deserves. My team has given me the opportunity to spend precious and quality time with my family, so I can also work on my goal of raising respectful, compassionate and understanding young boys.

The same goes with my husband and both of our parents, who are truly amazing when it comes to spending time with their grandchildren – this allows me to spend time on my other love, Vida Glow, and to help it to continue to flourish. Work-life-parenthood balance isn’t easy and at times I don’t master it, but it’s okay to not always get it right. No one has it all together.

“I also look up to my mum, she has a beautiful heart and I will always appreciate the sacrifices she has made for my sister and I to be blessed with the opportunities that we've had, and that she did not have growing up.”

       3. Who is an amazing businesswoman or female leader you look up to?

Arianna Huffington is someone that I look up to when it comes to business. She has worked hard for her success, has learned from her mistakes and is unapologetic about who she is. She is someone who promotes health and wellness in the workplace and encourages women to work well. That is, be determined but not to push so hard that you have little balance. I also look up to my mum, she has a beautiful heart and I will always appreciate the sacrifices she has made for my sister and I to be blessed with the opportunities that we've had, and that she did not have growing up.

      4. What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

International Women’s Day is a day to reflect and acknowledge all that women continue to achieve. It’s a day to showcase the triumphs, difficulties and push-backs faced, and what women continue to face. It is also a time to recognise how incredibly strong women are. That our strength and power can also be in our vulnerability. We play many roles in life, and it’s a wonderful day to celebrate the choices we make.
